The way I think about it is, we all participate in different ways and some ways work better for folks than others. I am fortunate in that I understand that, as far as the movement is concerned, it is totally okay for me to drift in and out of the formal protocol version and work in other ways toward the same end, which to me is always solidarity in the global revolution of the human heart. I eddy in and out, always at the edge of the big river.
There is so much work to be done, but I really do believe that it can be done, if everyone works together in the right way, which is not necessarily the same way. That is how the world is intended to function. We are not all supposed to be the same and share the same passions. We aren’t supposed to all work the same way. We are not robots. We are species.
I would really help to support people who are trying to find their niche in the movement, trying to figure out how it fits into their ideas and lives, help them to identify ways to participate that work for them. That’s part of Mindful Occupation.
I think that a lot of the attrition we’ve seen could have been avoided, but that’s part of the learning process. I wonder sometimes about the people who’ve drifted off. I wonder how many might have stayed and how many might come back were they supported in developing their own activism style and best function.
Some people really do well with paperwork. Some like to hold signs. Others like to go to meetings at fancy organizations and ask tough questions. Some like to talk to their coworkers or help their neighbors.
Empowering people to participate in their lives in a way that promotes positive and sustainable social/cultural/economic/environmental change WITHIN their own lives is so key to the growth of this movement and, more importantly, the spread of the ideas that it carries, in any language and in all metaphor.
The beautiful thing is that we have it all in place, all these people who have figured out so much about themselves over the past 7 and 1/2 months…these past few years…decades…and now know a little more what lights up their heart and captures their imagination, what are they good at, what do they love and what do they want to do with that love?
Me? I want to be a revolutionary of the radical narrative and that can mean whatever I want it to.
Anything is possible in this day and age.
Here’s a question for the 19th?
This just in: Presumed Innocent, possibly benevolent.
